BMI calculator
Calculate your Body Mass Index — then understand why Level Up measures body composition, not just BMI, for real fitness progress.
BMI does not measure muscle vs fat — athletes and lifters often read "high" while being lean. Level Up uses body composition scans, not BMI alone, to track real progress. Book a free consult for a proper baseline, or try our body fat estimator.

These calculators provide general fitness estimates only — not medical or nutritional advice. Talk with a qualified professional before starting a diet or training program, especially if you have health conditions.
BMI vs body composition — why we measure differently
Body Mass Index (BMI) is weight divided by height squared — a quick population screening tool used in medicine and research. It does not distinguish muscle from fat, bone density, or where fat is stored. Two people with the same BMI can look and perform completely differently.
A lifter or boxer with significant muscle may land in "overweight" on BMI while being lean and healthy. Someone in the "normal" range can still carry excess body fat and low muscle mass ("skinny fat"). That is why a single BMI number is a poor sole measure of fitness progress.
At Level Up Gym, your free consultation includes a body composition scan — fat mass, lean mass, and trends over time — so programming and nutrition match your actual physiology. Use this BMI calculator if you are curious about the category; use a scan if you want a plan.
Limitations
- Does not measure body fat, muscle, or fitness capacity.
- Less accurate for athletes, elderly, and very tall/short individuals.
