Body fat calculator
Estimate body fat percentage with the U.S. Navy circumference method — a starting point before a real body composition assessment.
A single number cannot capture muscle, hydration, or fat distribution. For a real baseline, book a free consultation with a body comp scan — or compare with our BMI calculator.

Tape-test estimate only — not a clinical measurement.
These calculators provide general fitness estimates only — not medical or nutritional advice. Talk with a qualified professional before starting a diet or training program, especially if you have health conditions.
Navy method body fat estimate
The U.S. Navy circumference method estimates body fat from neck, waist, and (for females) hip measurements plus height. It uses logarithmic formulas developed for population screening — useful as a rough benchmark, not a clinical measurement.
Tape tests are sensitive to measurement technique: same time of day, relaxed (not flexed), tape level and snug but not compressing skin. Even done perfectly, error bands of several percentage points are normal.
That is why Level Up emphasizes in-person body composition scanning at your free consultation — you get actionable data (muscle, fat, trends) instead of guessing from a tape measure alone. Use this calculator to get curious; use a scan to get a plan.
Limitations
- Circumference methods miss muscle distribution and visceral fat detail.
- Athletes with significant muscle mass may get skewed estimates.
- Not for pregnancy or medical diagnosis — consult a professional.
